Membership

Why Should I Join?
Becoming a member of the Valhalla Volunteer Ambulance Corps is a rewarding experience. There are several reasons to join the Ambulance Corps:

Types of Membership
The Valhalla Volunteer Ambulance Corps offers several different membership options. In fact, if you are interested in volunteering but do not wish to ride on the ambulance, we have opportunities available to be a "non-riding" Corps member.

Senior Corps / Active Member
EMT-B, Driver or Assistant
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B)

By NYS Law, each ambulance must have at least one NYS Certified EMT-B on every call. EMT's are in charge of the Emergency Call from beginning to finish including patient care and the operations of the call. EMTs may start out riding with a 2nd EMT until they are comfortable enough to ride as the "Crew Chief." Important Note: You do not have to be an EMT to join, if you are interested in becoming one we have educational reimbursement programs available.

Driver
Ambulance Drivers play a vital role in the process of the Emergency Call. Drivers are responsible for the safety of their crew and the patient. All Drivers are thoroughly trained on how to operate an Emergency Vehicle. Driver Training includes many trips to the various hospitals and learning the local roads. It also includes CPR training and learning the equipment on the ambulance.

Assistant
Assistants, or "Thirds" assistant the EMT and Driver in the operation of the call. This may include assisting the EMT is patient care, retrieving equipment from the ambulance, after call clean-up, talking to patients family on-scene, etc. Assistants are also trained in CPR. Training as a Certified First Responder (CFR) is also available to Assistants.

Junior Corps
Must be between the ages of 16 and 17

The Valhalla Ambulance Corps created the Junior Corps to introduce High School students to the world of EMS. Junior Corps members not only ride on the ambulance but also attend meetings, trainings and even have the opportunity to become certified in CPR and as a First Responder. Over the years, many of our Junior Corps members have become EMTs and some are even now Officers of the Corps. There is also a scholarship program available to those Junior Corps members who meet the requirements.

Board of Directors
Civilian Member, Non-Riding
The Valhalla Ambulance Corps has a Board of Directors comprised of both members of the Corps and Civilian members of the community. Serving on the Board gives you an inside look on the behind the scenes operations of the Corps. Distribution of funding, budgets, maintenance, insurance, fundraising and many other important issues are discussed and decided at BOD meetings.

Associate Members
Civilian Member, Non-Riding
If you would like to be involved with the Valhalla Ambulance Corps, but do not want to ride on the ambulance, being an Associate Member may be right for you. Everyone has a valuable skill to share and we'd love to have you aboard! Associate members are involved in fundraising, clerical work, phone calls and a variety of other important tasks.

You do not need to be a doctor or a nurse to join. In fact, you do not need to have any training at all...just the desire to help others in need. When you join the Valhalla Volunteer Ambulance Corps, you will be provided with all the necessary training at NO cost to you.
